OCEAN CITY, MD—Four siblings who have played the Maryland Lottery’s Multi-Match game together for eight years claimed half of a $1.8 million jackpot from the June 30 drawing, lottery officials have announced.
The winning ticket, purchased at the Food Lion at 9936 Stephen Decatur Highway in Ocean City, yielded a $490,000 cash payout for the group after the jackpot was split with another winning ticket sold in Silver Spring.
The siblings, all retired nurses and government workers, started their lottery pool eight years ago to celebrate the birth of a child in the family. The sister responsible for buying the tickets was on vacation in Ocean City when she made the winning purchase.
Upon scanning the ticket at the store, she saw a “Go to Lottery” message, prompting her to verify the win on the Maryland Lottery app.
“Let’s rock and roll,” one sibling reportedly exclaimed when informed of the win.
The group opted for the cash option and plans to use their winnings for a new car, a trip to Europe, and investments.
The second winning ticket from the June 30 drawing, purchased at the Giant store at 13781 Connecticut Avenue in Silver Spring, remains unclaimed.
