Waterspout spotted over Chesapeake Bay on Wednesday morning

CHESTER, MD—A waterspout was spotted over the Chesapeake Bay on Wednesday morning.

The waterspout appeared in the Chester, Maryland area near the Eastern Bay Yachting Center at around 10:30 a.m. on July 2, 2025.

A waterspout is a rotating column of air and water spray that forms over a body of water. They are often described as tornadoes over water and can be categorized into two types: tornadic and fair weather.

Tornadic waterspouts are essentially tornadoes that form over water or move from land to water, while fair weather waterspouts develop in calmer conditions over open water.
