BALTIMORE, MD—The Maryland Lottery is inviting local artists to submit original artwork for a chance to be featured on an upcoming scratch-off ticket, the agency announced Tuesday.
The “Maryland Treasures Art Contest” seeks images that capture what residents value most about the state. Three selected pieces of art will appear on the $2 Maryland Treasures ticket, slated to go on sale in March 2026 at more than 4,300 retailers statewide.
Each of the three chosen artists will receive a $4,000 award for their work and for assisting the Maryland Lottery in promoting the new ticket.
Submissions will be accepted from July 1 through Aug. 15. Eligible artists must be Maryland residents and at least 18 years old. The artwork should celebrate Maryland, incorporating elements of the state’s history, landmarks, culture or traditions.
“For more than 50 years, the Lottery has been part of the fabric of the community, and we love the way this contest emphasizes that connection,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin. “There are many parts of life in Maryland that make it a special place to live, and we’re eager to see how artists will convey that. Their artwork will help us create a ticket that is something unique.”
A panel of Maryland Lottery staff members will review submissions anonymously to select the three pieces that best align with the “Maryland Treasures” theme. The Maryland Lottery plans to announce the winning artwork and artists in the coming months, ahead of the ticket’s launch next spring.
