Harford County Sheriff’s Office announces passing of Sergeant George Gregory Dietz

HARFORD COUNTY, MD—The Harford County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday announced the passing of one of its sheriffs.

Sergeant George Gregory “Greg” Dietz served with the department for 27 years and passed away suddenly at his residence on Monday night.

“Throughout his career, Sgt. Dietz served in many roles exemplifying his commitment to public safety and community involvement, including Patrol Services, as a School Resource Officer, a supervisor in the Criminal Investigations and Court Services Divisions,” the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “His final assignment was a supervisor of the Civil Unit. He also held many other secondary assignments including; a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team, Public Information Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and an Agency Recruiter.”

“During this time of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with Sgt. Dietz’s family, friends, and loved ones. His presence will be greatly missed, and his impact will not be forgotten,” HCSO concluded.

At the family’s request, arrangements will be private.
