Maryland store sells winning $2 million lottery ticket

INDIAN HEAD, MD—A Maryland Lottery player in Charles County won a $2,041,396 FAST PLAY jackpot Friday, securing one of the largest progressive prizes in the game’s history.

The winning Gold Rush Progressive ticket, which costs $30, was purchased at Mutts Liquors, located at 4541 Indian Head Highway in Indian Head.

The Gold Rush Progressive game launched on July 1, 2024, with a starting jackpot of $650,000. The prize steadily increased with each ticket sold, exceeding $2 million by Friday. Progressive jackpot amounts are updated regularly on the Maryland Lottery’s website, mobile app, and at retail locations.

Friday’s win marks the third-largest progressive jackpot awarded in Maryland since FAST PLAY games were introduced in February 2020. The record remains a $2.9 million prize won in November 2024 on the $30 VIP Club game, followed by a $2.6 million jackpot from the $20 Diamond Mine game in October 2021.

FAST PLAY tickets offer instant wins with play styles similar to scratch-off tickets, but they are printed on demand from Lottery terminals and vending machines, eliminating the need for scratching. These games range in price from $1 to $30, with some featuring progressive top prizes that grow with each ticket sold.
