MIDDLE RIVER, MD—Residents concerned about traffic safety on Eastern Boulevard are urged to attend a community meeting in July where the Maryland State Highway Administration will present findings from a traffic safety study.

Delegates Ryan Nawrocki and Kathy Szeliga announced the meeting, which will focus on plans to improve traffic conditions along Eastern Boulevard between Maryland Route 43 and Earls Road. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at the Gunpowder VFW, located at 6309 Ebenezer Road in Middle River.

SHA officials will present the results of their safety review and answer questions from the community. The study was initiated due to increasing concerns about accidents, injuries and fatalities on Eastern Boulevard, particularly with the rise in traffic from ongoing development.

“This corridor has become increasingly dangerous for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike,” Nawrocki said, highlighting the urgent need for action. “For too long, our community has endured serious safety concerns on Eastern Boulevard. This meeting is an opportunity for residents to hear directly from SHA and ensure that meaningful solutions are implemented.”

Eastern Boulevard serves as a critical transportation route for residents of eastern Baltimore County. However, recent growth and development have led to increased traffic and heightened safety risks.

“There have been too many accidents, including tragic fatalities on Eastern Blvd,” Szeliga said. “This meeting will provide everyone a chance to hear the much-needed information from the State Highway Administration. We strongly encourage people to attend and participate.”

Residents and businesses in Middle River, Bowleys Quarters, Chase, Oliver Beach, Essex, and surrounding communities affected by the Eastern Boulevard corridor are encouraged to attend. Officials said feedback and engagement from local citizens will be heard and will help shape future improvements.
