BALTIMORE, MD—Maryland State Police have arrested an Illinois man in connection with a highway shooting in Baltimore County and are attempting to determine if he is linked to three other shootings in Pennsylvania on the same night.
Christian Ramos, 28, of Aurora, Illinois, is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and related offenses, Maryland State Police announced Friday. He is also facing a separate firearm charge in Cecil County and is awaiting an initial court appearance there.
The arrest stems from a shooting reported shortly before midnight Wednesday on southbound Interstate 83 near Shawan Road. A driver called 9-1-1 to report their Toyota Prius had been shot. Three people, including a 2-year-old, were in the car, but no injuries were reported.
Investigators found a bullet hole in the passenger-side window and a projectile in the front seat of the vehicle. Dashcam footage and interviews led investigators to identify Ramos as a suspect.
Police believe Ramos was driving a Tag Trans Inc. tractor-trailer at the time of the shooting (pictured below). The vehicle was located on Thursday at a travel center in Elkton, where Ramos was taken into custody without incident. A search of the tractor-trailer recovered a loaded .45-caliber handgun, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and multiple spent shell casings.
Maryland State Police said they later learned that Pennsylvania State Police are investigating three shootings that occurred on I-83 in Pennsylvania between 10 p.m. and midnight on Wednesday.
Authorities are seeking additional victims and information. Anyone who traveled on I-83 through Maryland or Pennsylvania on Wednesday night and has dashcam footage or information is asked to contact the Maryland State Police Highway Gun Crimes Initiative at 410-538-1887.
