Severe Thunderstorm Watch, Flood Watch issued for much of central Maryland

BALTIMORE, MD—The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch and a Flood Watch for much of central Maryland on Thursday.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be in effect until 9 p.m. on June 19, 2025 and includes Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Calvert County, Caroline County, Carroll County, Cecil County, Charles County, Dorchester County, Frederick County, Harford County, Howard County, Kent County, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, Queen Anne’s County, Somerset County, St. Mary’s County, Talbot County, Washington County, and Wicomico County.

The Flood Watch will also be in effect until 9 p.m. on Thursday and includes Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Howard County, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County.

Forecasters say there is an enhanced risk of severe storms in central Maryland.  Showers and thunderstorms may produce rainfall rates of around 1 inch per hour, with localized totals of 2 to 3 inches possible in areas that receive multiple thunderstorms. This may result in rapid rises on small streams and creeks, and in urban and poor drainage areas.

Any storms that develop may contain damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, flooding downpours, and an isolated tornado.

Residents should remain weather-aware throughout the day.
