WASHINGTON, DC—The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Tuesday that FreshRealm establishments are recalling chicken fettuccine alfredo products sold nationwide at Kroger and Walmart, citing potential contamination with an outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes. The outbreak has been linked to 17 illnesses across 13 states, including three deaths and one fetal loss.
FreshRealm, with facilities in San Clemente, California; Montezuma, Georgia; and Indianapolis, Indiana, is voluntarily recalling all chicken fettuccine alfredo products produced before June 17, 2025 (view labels).
The recalled ready-to-eat products include:
- 32.8-ounce tray packages of “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE” with best-by dates of June 27, 2025, or prior.
- 12.3-ounce tray packages of “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE” with broccoli and best-by dates of June 26, 2025, or prior.
- 12.5-ounce tray packages of “HOME CHEF Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo” with best-by dates of June 19, 2025, or prior.
These products bear USDA mark of inspection establishment numbers “EST. P-50784,” “EST. P-47770,” or “EST. P-47718” on the side of the packaging.
FSIS and public health partners are investigating the Listeria outbreak, with illnesses reported from August 2024 through May 2025. The same outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes was isolated from a routine sample of chicken fettuccine alfredo collected by FSIS at a FreshRealm establishment in March 2025. While that specific lot was held and destroyed, subsequent investigations linked other FreshRealm products to ill individuals through purchase records and product descriptions.
The investigation into the source of contamination, including specific ingredients, is ongoing.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, sometimes preceded by diarrhea. In pregnant women, listeriosis can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn.
Consumers who have purchased these recalled products are advised not to consume them. The products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure the products are removed from commerce. Consumers with questions regarding the recall can contact FreshRealm customer service at 888-244-1562.
