NOW YOU KNOW: Celebrate National Drive-In Movie Night at Bengies Drive-In Theatre in Middle River

The following is an update from Delegates Kathy Szeliga and Ryan Nawrocki.

MIDDLE RIVER, MD—Delegates Kathy Szeliga and Ryan Nawrocki are encouraging Marylanders to celebrate National Drive-In Movie Night this June 6th by visiting a true local treasure, the Bengies Drive-In Theatre, located in Middle River.

On June 6th, Bengies Drive-In marks its 69th anniversary this year, coinciding with the celebration of National Drive-In Movie Night, which commemorates the opening of the very first drive-in theater in America in 1933. Since 1956, Bengies has been a beloved piece of American nostalgia and is proudly the last remaining drive-in movie theatre in Maryland. With its massive 52-foot-tall by 120-foot-wide screen, the largest in the United States, Bengies Drive-In continues to offer an unmatched cinematic experience. It has preserved its retro charm while embracing modern technology and maintaining traditions like the nightly playing of the National Anthem before each double feature.

“Bengies Drive-In isn’t just a movie theatre; it’s a living time capsule and a place where generations of Maryland families enjoy time together,” said Delegate Kathy Szeliga. “We are proud that this local gem has stood the test of time. My family and I have watched many movies at Bengies, creating lasting memories of this unique experience together..”

“In an age of streaming and smartphones, Bengies Drive-In brings people together in a rare and special way. It represents community, family fun, and the spirit of small business that we’re committed to preserving,” said Delegate Ryan Nawrocki. “As the only operating drive-in in the state, Bengies Drive-In is a proud landmark where my family and I love to watch movies together.”

Owned and operated by three generations of the Vogel family, Bengies Drive-In has been under the stewardship of D. Vogel since 1988. Its longevity is a testament to the family’s dedication to providing entertainment to the community.

To celebrate its anniversary and National Drive-In Movie Night, Bengies Drive-In will show a special double feature: The Karate Kid: Legends, followed by Final Destination: Bloodlines. The box office opens at 7:15 pm, and guests are encouraged to arrive early for the best parking spots. Tickets and showtime details are available at www.bengies.com.

This summer, don’t miss the chance to experience a piece of Americana in your backyard. Grab your family, pack the car, and head to Bengies Drive-In for a fun evening under the stars.
