WASHINGTON—Hackers have leaked a massive database containing 86 million AT&T customer records, including decrypted Social Security numbers, raising concerns about potential identity theft and fraud, according to a report by cybersecurity news outlet Hackread.
The breach, tied to a previously reported April 2024 incident involving the cloud platform Snowflake, includes sensitive information such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, and over 44 million plaintext Social Security numbers. The data is now circulating on two cybercrime forums, amplifying the risk to affected customers.
AT&T has not yet confirmed whether this newly leaked dataset is linked to the earlier Snowflake breach, which exposed call and text records for nearly all of its cellular customers from May to October 2022. That incident, disclosed in July 2024, affected approximately 110 million individuals but did not include Social Security numbers or call contents, according to the company. Earlier this year, AT&T also reported a separate dark web leak from 2019 or earlier, impacting 73 million current and former customers, including 7.6 million active account holders.
The latest leak, reported on June 4, 2025, significantly escalates the threat due to the exposure of decrypted Social Security numbers, which could be used for financial fraud or identity theft. Cybersecurity experts urge affected customers to monitor their financial accounts, freeze their credit, and enable two-factor authentication where possible.
AT&T has not issued a public statement regarding the latest leak. Consumers seeking more information are advised to contact the company directly or visit its official website for updates on protective measures.
