BALTIMORE, MD—A Baltimore County truck driver and his wife are $250,000 richer after winning a top prize on a $10 Money Bags scratch-off ticket, the Maryland Lottery announced this week.
The lucky winner claimed his prize at Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore on June 2, still reeling from the windfall.
“I’m still not believing this is real,” he said.
The couple purchased the winning ticket last week at a Food Lion on North Point Road in Baltimore County while shopping for groceries. Pressed for time, they nearly skipped the store’s lottery vending machine but decided to double back. The wife chose the Money Bags ticket on a whim.
The win came to light when she interrupted her husband’s lawn mowing to share the news.
“She asked me to guess how much we’d won,” Paul said. “I guessed $500, the most I’d ever won, but she kept pointing up. Then she showed me. 100% disbelief.”
The Money Bags game, launched in February, started with five $250,000 top prizes. One was claimed in May by a Washington, D.C., resident, leaving three top prizes unclaimed as of June 2, along with two $50,000 prizes, 12 $10,000 prizes, and thousands of smaller prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
The lucky husband & wife plan to use their winnings to pay bills and fund home remodeling projects, with hopes of having enough left for a fun splurge.
