HAGERSTOWN, MD—NewCold, a global leader in advanced food logistics, will invest over $275 million to build a state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Washington County, Maryland, creating between 125 and 150 high-tech jobs, Governor Wes Moore announced Friday.
The temperature-controlled, automated warehouse at 45 West Oak Ridge Drive in Hagerstown will utilize proprietary technology, including automated storage and retrieval systems, to streamline operations. The facility is expected to bolster Maryland’s economy and enhance the region’s role in global supply chains.
“Maryland is focused on growing our economy and investing in industries of the future,” Moore said. “Collaborations like this one with NewCold show why Maryland is a destination for businesses looking to expand.”
NewCold, founded in 2012, specializes in innovative logistics solutions. The Hagerstown facility will feature high-bay warehouses and offer skilled positions, fostering long-term career opportunities for local residents.
“We’re excited to bring our technology to Hagerstown and contribute to its vibrant future,” said NewCold CEO Bram Hage. North America President Mike Shawgo added that the company is committed to recruiting and training locally to create sustainable jobs.
The Maryland Department of Commerce is supporting the project with a proposed $1 million conditional loan through Advantage Maryland, complemented by assistance from the City of Hagerstown. The facility’s strategic location, with access to rail lines, interstates, airports, and proximity to the Port of Baltimore, positions NewCold to serve international markets efficiently.
“This investment strengthens Hagerstown’s economy and creates quality jobs,” said Mayor William McIntire. “NewCold’s cutting-edge facility will be a significant boost for our community.”
The project marks a milestone in NewCold’s expansion and underscores Hagerstown’s growing appeal as a hub for advanced industries.
