TUCKER, GA—Hormel Foods Corporation is recalling approximately 256,185 pounds of canned beef stew that may contain pieces of wood, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday.
The recall involves 20-ounce metal cans of “Dinty Moore BEEF STEW” produced on February 4, 2025, with a “BEST BY FEB 2028” date and lot code “T02045” printed on the can. The lot code may include an additional number. The affected products, marked with establishment number “EST 199G,” were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
The issue came to light after Hormel Foods reported three consumer complaints about wood found in the beef stew, prompting the company to notify FSIS. No injuries have been reported, but the FSIS urged consumers concerned about potential health risks to contact a healthcare provider.
“FSIS is concerned that some product may still be in consumers’ pantries,” the agency said in a statement. Consumers are advised to discard the recalled product or return it to the place of purchase.
The FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure Hormel Foods notifies customers and removes the product from circulation. Consumers with questions can contact Hormel Foods at 800-523-4635.
