Maryland’s Best kicks-off 2025 Ice Cream Trail with new digital app

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Get ready to embark on a sweet adventure! Maryland’s Best, the state’s marketing program connecting consumers to local farmers, officially launched the 2025 Maryland’s Best Ice Cream Trail last week week at Misty Meadows Farm Creamery in Washington County. The trail features 14 on-farm creameries across the state, offering a delightful taste of Maryland’s dairy industry. These creameries stretch more than 145 miles from Maryland’s mountains to the Eastern Shore, producing and selling their ice cream directly to consumers. Each stop illuminates the Maryland dairy industry and the significant contributions of its nearly 300 dairy farms.

This year, participants can enjoy a more streamlined experience with the new Let’s Rallie app, available for free download on Apple and Android devices. The app features a digital check-in system with unique QR codes at each creamery, making it easier to track progress and earn rewards. Participants can also track their progress by taking photos at each location and sending them to [email protected] once the entire trail has been completed.

“With 14 stops this year, I am going to need a bigger freezer!” joked Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks, who joined the launch event. He emphasized the importance of the trail in supporting Maryland’s dairy farms, stating, “These types of trails are more than just fun, they also allow dairy farms to be more profitable by giving farmers an option to build markets for their value-added products.”

The trail offers a chance to win exciting prizes, including the coveted “2025 Maryland’s Best Ice Cream Trailblazer” title and a prize pack. Participants who complete all 14 check-ins will be eligible to win a $50 gift certificate to their choice of participating creameries, a copy of the children’s book “Tales of the Dairy Godmother: Chuck’s Ice Cream Wish,” and the coveted trophy.

In partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the trail encourages participants to combine their ice cream adventures with scenic hikes. Hikers can check in at designated trails near each creamery using the Let’s Rallie app for a chance at separate prizes.

“One of the best ways to motivate your kids–or your friends–to join you on a hike is to let them know about the ice cream you’ll enjoy afterwards,” said Department of Natural Resources Sec. Josh Kurtz. “We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful parks and natural areas.”

Those who complete both the ice cream trail and all 14 hikes can enter to win an annual State Parks pass.
