Podcast study: What Maryland really listens to might surprise you

BALTIMORE, MD—From Baltimore’s urban neighborhoods to the suburbs surrounding DC, Maryland residents are tuning into podcasts with preferences that reflect the state’s unique blend of government, technology, and healthcare professionals. New data shows Maryland’s podcast rankings, revealing distinctive patterns that set it apart from neighboring states.

The team at AI note-taking tool Notta.ai used Google Keyword Planner to analyze the Google search volume of the most popular podcasts on Spotify.

The findings show that “The Joe Rogan Experience” leads with 669.20 searches per 100,000 residents, while “The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett” makes a rare appearance in the top 10—a business-focused podcast that doesn’t rank in most other states’ top listings.

Joe Rogan’s podcast leads with 669.20 searches per 100k residents.  “Shawn Ryan Show” claims second place with 94.36 searches per 100k.  “The Diary Of A CEO” appears in tenth place, a podcast rarely seen in other states’ rankings.

Full methodology:
This study analyzed the popularity of top Spotify podcasts by measuring Google search volume data across Maryland, with results normalized per 100,000 internet users to account for population differences. The analysis ranked podcasts based on their search popularity, excluding any titles that registered insufficient data in Google Keyword Planner (zero searches or only one keyword).
