BALTIMORE, MD—An Afghan national convicted of second-degree assault was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Maryland on May 13, the agency announced.
Javid Ahmadi, 27, was arrested by ICE in Elkridge after serving a sentence for second-degree assault in Maryland. Ahmadi was initially apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol near San Ysidro, California on October 10, 2023, and served with a notice to appear. He was then released on an order of recognizance.
Ahmadi was arrested on June 19, 2024, by Anne Arundel County Police on charges of second-degree assault, fourth-degree sex offense, and indecent exposure. He was convicted of second-degree assault on April 9 and sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in confinement, with the entire sentence suspended.
“The arrest of this criminal alien offender, who has been convicted of assault here in Maryland, highlights the ongoing threat posed by individuals who violate our immigration laws and engage in serious criminal activity after entering the United States illegally,” said ICE Baltimore acting Field Office Director Nikita Baker. “ICE Baltimore will continue to prioritize the arrest and removal of criminal aliens who endanger the safety and well-being of our Maryland communities.”
