Baltimore County duo convicted of gruesome abduction, torture, and carjacking

BALTIMORE, MD—Two men have been convicted in federal court in Maryland of abducting, torturing, and carjacking three people, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Maryland announced this week.

Dennis Hairston, 34, of Windsor Mill, and Donte Stanley, 33, of Rosedale, were each convicted on charges connected to the kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery of two check cashing business employees in May 2021.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that Hairston and Stanley posed as police officers to kidnap the victims, who were working at check cashing businesses in May 2021.

The two men are also accused of carjacking two of the victims’ vehicles.

Federal prosecutors say that Hairston and Stanley brutally beat and tortured the victims, and then burned two of them with a blowtorch to attempt to get money from them.

“There’s no question these criminals belong behind bars, and their conviction guarantees that will happen,” said Special Agent in Charge William DelBagno of the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office. “Hairston and Stanley’s actions are disturbing and will not be tolerated. FBI Baltimore is determined to ensure brazen individuals willing to use inconceivable violence for financial gain are brought to justice.”

Hairston faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. Stanley also faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
