Heavy traffic, road closures expected in Baltimore on Monday during Biden visit

BALTIMORE, MD—Joe Biden’s visit to Baltimore on Monday is expected to bring significant traffic congestion and delays to the area.

Biden is expected to make the trip to Baltimore to tout how money from the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure legislation will be used to fund a replacement of the Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel, one of the oldest tunnels in the Amtrak rail system, in a move expected to bring relief to commuters in the area.

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation is advising motorists that heavy traffic volumes are expected in the Baltimore area on Monday, January 30, 2023.

Heavy volumes of traffic are expected downtown and in areas beyond the central business district on Monday from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Temporary traffic stops and possible road closures will be implemented during these times which will cause congestion and delays. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead if traveling in the downtown vicinity on Monday by allowing additional travel time.

The following roadways will be affected on Monday, January 30, 2023 from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with parking restrictions in effect (where applicable):

  • Fort Avenue – Richardson Street to Fort McHenry
  • Andre Street – Fort Avenue to McComas Street
  • McComas Street
  • I-95 South in Baltimore City
  • I-395
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard
  • Howard Street
  • North Avenue – Howard to Charles Streets
  • Maryland Avenue – W. 19 ½ Street to Falls Road
  • W. Trenton Street – Falls Road to Morton Street
  • Lafayette Street – Falls Road to Morton Street
  • 1800-block Falls Road to Maryland Avenue

Parking restrictions will also be implemented along the various streets listed above on Monday where applicable. Vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed and towed, so motorists are strongly encouraged to pay close attention to and obey all posted parking restrictions.

Modifications to the Charm City Circulator’s Banner Route will also be implemented on Monday, January 30, 2023. A temporary detour of the Banner Route will be in place from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. which will affect the Andre Street stop #410 and the Fort McHenry stop #411. The Banner Route will be detoured from southbound Fort Avenue, and will turn left onto Decatur Street, right on Clement Street, right on Hull Street, and right onto Fort Avenue to resume its normal route. Patrons may use the Towson Street stop #412 during this time. Additional information can be found on the Charm City Circulator’s webpage.
