BALTIMORE, MD—A lucky Maryland Powerball player has a million reasons to celebrate after the Wednesday, August 31 drawing. The player became the state’s newest millionaire, only missing the right to claim the jackpot by one ball.
Even though there was no jackpot winner in the 8/31 drawing, a total of 8,868 winning tickets were sold across Maryland. The $1 million winner was sold at Milford Liquors located at 8100 Liberty Road in Baltimore.
Meanwhile, a ticket purchased in Harford County for the August 31 drawing is worth $100,004. That ticket, which was sold at Redner’s Warehouse Market located at 2126 North Fountain Green Road in Bel Air, had three winning lines of numbers on it — two that won $50,000 each and a third line that won $4.
The winning numbers to match were 7, 8, 19, 24 and 28; the Powerball was 1. The $1 million winner matched the first five numbers, but missed out on winning the jackpot because the ticket did not match the Powerball number. The jackpot for he next Powerball drawing on September 3 rolled to an estimated annuity value of $148 million, with an estimated cash option of $83.1 million.
This year, including results from this Powerball drawing, the state has now sold two $2 million second-tier winning tickets, two $1 million second-tier winning tickets, 41 third-tier winning tickets worth at least $50,000 each, and four Double Play third-tier winning tickets each worth $50,000.
Lottery officials encourage all winners to sign the back of the tickets immediately and put them in a safe location. Winners get 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes.
