ROSEDALE, MD—A lucky player who predicted that he would one day win the lottery arrived at Maryland Lottery headquarters last week to happily claim a $200,000 prize.
The 43-year-old, who plays lottery games once a week, found his lucky win in the March 11 Powerball drawing.
The Rosedale resident visited the Royal Farms located at 8803 Philadelphia Road in Rosedale on the day of the drawing to buy his $15 ticket. He bought five Powerball quick picks with the added Power Play multiplier.
The next day, while sitting in his car, the lucky winner remembered to check his ticket. He thought something was wrong when he couldn’t scan it. Even more confusion set in after he compared his numbers to those on the Maryland Lottery website and realized his ticket matched five of the winning numbers.
The loyal Powerball player thought that meant he won $50,000 so he called headquarters to see what to do next. That’s when he learned he won a whopping $200,000, thanks to a 4X Power Play multiplier.
“I was super excited, I had to calm myself down,” the happy player said. He had predicted to a friend that a big win would happen someday so he called his pal to share the great news. He hasn’t yet told his wife. Instead, he plans to surprise her with a new car for her birthday.
The winner is a U.S. Navy veteran and has worked in security for the past five years. He is a devout family man, married for 16 years, who has four daughters and he loves travel and adventure.
No one has hit a Powerball jackpot since February. Players can try to win a $130 million jackpot in the Wednesday, March 18 drawing. The cash option is $101 million.
