Eastern Tech team emerges as winner at Stampede VEX Robotics Event

VEX RoboticsTOWSON, MD — Teams from Eastern Technical High School, Hereford High School, and Hereford Middle School captured nine of 12 awards at Hereford Zone Robotics’ 6th annual Stampede VEX Robotics Event.

At the December 2 event, held at Hereford Middle School, 44 teams from throughout the Maryland area participated, including teams from the following Baltimore County schools: Dulaney High School, Eastern Technical High School, Hereford High School, Hereford Middle School, Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, and Western School of Technology.

The BCPS teams winning honors were:

  • Excellence Award – Team 929U, Hereford Zone Robotics, Hereford High School
  • Tournament Champions – Team 929U, Hereford Zone Robotics, Hereford High School
  • Tournament Champions – Team 929X, Hereford Zone Robotics, Hereford High School
  • Tournament Finalists—Team 5839E, Tech 5 – The Terminator!, Eastern Technical High School
  • Tournament Finalists – Team 929H, Robotics Club Hereford, Hereford High School
  • Tournament Finalists – Team 929D, Hereford Zone Robotics, Hereford High School
  • Robot Skills Winner – Team 9290B, Hereford Zone Robotics, Hereford Middle School
  • Design Award – Team 929X, Hereford Zone Robotics, Hereford High School
  • Create Award – Team 9290B, Hereford Zone Robotics, Hereford Middle School

As a result of their performance, all of the BCPS teams winning honors qualified for the Maryland State VEX Robotics Championships.

Christopher Putnam, a S.T.A.T. (Students and Teachers Accessing Tomorrow) teacher at Hereford Middle and an event coordinator, noted that Team 9290B, which earned the top prize in the Robot Skills division, ended up with a score of 142, which places them 19th in the world out of all middle and high school VEX robotics teams. The members of Team 9290B are Cole Borror, Nick Sackleh, Nick Janney, and Collin Lee.
