Man steals cab in Joppa, crashes into police cars

At just before 2 p.m. on Saturday, police responded to a report of a carjacking in the Joppatowne Plaza in Joppa. At the scene, officers learned that a black male had entered a cab, requested a ride to Baltimore, then implied he had a weapon.

The cab driver jumped out of the car and the suspect got into the driver’s seat and fled with the cab. A call went out for deputies to be on the lookout for the taxi.

Shortly thereafter, the Harford County sheriff was traveling along Route 40 in the area of Route 755 in Edgewood when he spotted the cab.  After a brief pursuit, the suspect crashed into two vehicles from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office along Route 40 near Spesutia Road. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Deputies took the suspect, identified as Dionte Kyrell James Torrence, 24, of Baltimore, into custody and charged him with carjacking, second-degree assault, and theft.

He was taken to the Harford County Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.

Police searching for teen missing from Edgewood

Tamia Unique SwannPolice in Harford County are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing teen.

Tamia Unique Swann, 16, was last seen at her residence on Albantowne Way in Edgewood on Monday at 10:30 p.m.

Tamia was last seen wearing a Taco Bell uniform.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call police at 443-409-3302.

Edgewood man killed in double fatal crash on I-695

fatal-crashMaryland state troopers have been able to locate a relative of the victim of Thursday morning’s double fatal crash on I-695 whose name had not been released.

Authorities have now released the man’s name after family notification.

The victim has been identified as Sedrick L. Beasley, 54, of Edgewood. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Beasley was driving a 2017 Ford Focus at about 2:00 a.m. Thursday on the inner loop of I-695 near Liberty Road, when he was struck head-on by a 2003 Subaru Forester being driven in the wrong direction.

Troopers identified the driver of the wrong way vehicle as Jorene Long, 88, of York, PA.

She was also killed in the crash.

No further information is available regarding why Long was traveling the wrong way on I-695, or where she had been since leaving her home on an errand yesterday afternoon.

The investigation is continuing.

Victim identified in early morning pedestrian crash along I-95

Pedestrian StruckMaryland State Police have identified the pedestrian victim involved in Tuesday morning’s fatal crash involving a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 in Baltimore County.

The victim has been identified as Nicole Comi, 31, of Baltimore. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The driver of the tractor trailer has been identified as Michael McDonough, 59, of Edgewood.

At 2:30 a.m., state troopers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian at northbound I-95 in the area of I-695 and White Marsh Boulevard, near the King Avenue overpass. Responding troopers found EMS personnel treating the victim on scene.

Police have determined that Comi was walking in a lane of the highway at the time of the incident. It is unknown why she was in the roadway.

Northbound I-95 was closed prior to the beltway for just over three hours.

No charges have been filed. Upon completion of the ongoing crash investigation, it will be forwarded to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office for review to determine if charges are warranted.

Maryland State Police responded to the scene of a fatal crash involving a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 in Baltimore County on Tuesday morning.

At about 2:30 a.m., state troopers responded to the report of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian along northbound I-95 in the area of I-695 and White Marsh Boulevard, near the King Avenue overpass. Responding troopers found EMS personnel treating the victim on scene.

Emergency personnel pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The victim has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the tractor trailer has been identified as Michael McDonough, 59, of Edgewood. He was not injured during the incident.

No charges have yet been filed pending an investigation.
