Philadelphia Road closed due to overnight crash in Joppa

UPDATE: Authorities say a nearby home caught fire in the 1100 block of Mountain Road South after the utility pole brought wires down.

The occupant heard the impact, smelled smoke, and heard their smoke detector.

The occupant and her 5-year-old daughter exited the home safely.

A portion of Philadelphia Road remains closed at this hour due to an overnight crash in Joppa.

The crash occurred at about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday in the 1600 block of Philadelphia Road.

Officials say a vehicle struck a utility pole, bringing it down and causing a power outage, then the vehicle overturned.

Philadelphia Road is shut down between Clayton Avenue and Raspe Lane.

There has been no word on any injuries.

 

Jaws of Life used in dramatic Joppa rescue

Joppa Rescue 20170815A dramatic rescue took place along Interstate 95 in Joppa on Tuesday afternoon.

At just after 1 p.m., crews from Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company responded to a crash along northbound I-95, prior to the Mountain Road exit.

At the scene, paramedics found one vehicle that had gone off the highway and down an embankment, with the driver trapped.

The call was escalated to a rescue, which brought a response from the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company. Rescue crews worked to stabilize the vehicle before using the Jaws of Life and other tools to remove the patient.

Additional rescuers prepared a rope rescue system to bring the patient up the embankment, out of the woods, and back to the roadway.

The patient, a seriously-injured adult female, was taken to Shock Trauma.

Maryland State Police are investigating the cause of the collision.

Serious crash brings wires down in Fallston

At just after 4 p.m., paramedics responded to the intersection of Harford Road and Connolly Road.

Reports indicate that a bus collided with another vehicle.

The collision brought down power lines in the area.

Multiple medic units from Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company are responding to the scene.

Motorists should use caution in the area.

Pedestrian struck, killed in Rosedale

Authorities are on the scene of a fatal Tuesday afternoon crash involving a pedestrian in Rosedale.

At just after 3 p.m., paramedics responded to the intersection of Rossville Boulevard and Pulaski Highway.

At the scene, crews found that a pedestrian had been fatally struck.

There has been no word on any other injuries.

Motorists should avoid the area.
