Orioles to celebrate Mo Gaba day on Thursday

BALTIMORE, MD—In recognition of the tremendous impact Orioles Hall of Famer Mo Gaba had on the Orioles, the City of Baltimore, and the entire Birdland Community, the Orioles will celebrate the augural “Mo Gaba Day” at Oriole Park on Thursday, July 28, as the team hosts the Tampa Bay Rays at 12:35 p.m. ET.

On the second anniversary of his passing, the Orioles will welcome Gaba’s mom, Sonsy, his friends and family, caretakers from Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, and fans from near and far, to celebrate his life and legacy. Fans who purchase tickets for the game, at Orioles.com/Tickets, can choose to include a donation to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Gaba’s honor.

Gaba, the late 14-year-old Orioles superfan, was elected to the Orioles Hall of Fame in 2020, just a day before his untimely passing. He was the second recipient of The Wild Bill Hagy Award as one of the most passionate and devoted fans in franchise history. Gaba, who endured four different battles with cancer and lost his eyesight prior to his passing, began calling in to local sports radio programming in 2015 at the age of nine to share his knowledge of Baltimore sports, and his infectious laughter and enthusiasm quickly captured the hearts of local sports fans. Gaba was a friend to all, and established relationships with Orioles and Ravens players alike, becoming a staple in the Baltimore sports community.

Throughout the duration of the season, fans can further support the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center through purchase of Mo Gaba’s Shrimp Platter at the Jimmy’s Famous Seafood stand located near Section 72. In honor of Gaba’s legacy, $1 from every Shrimp Platter sold will benefit the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Tickets are available at Orioles.com/Tickets.
