Joppa shooting suspect arrested, identified

JOPPA, MD— Police in Harford County have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that occurred in Joppa on Saturday evening.

​At just before 7:30 p.m. on June 25, deputies with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 300-block of Ellsworth Place for a report of a shooting. An adult male was located in a townhouse with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body.

Deputies arrived on scene and immediately began to render aid until relived by personnel from the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. The victim was then airlifted by helicopter to a local trauma center.

After conducting an investigation, police identified Malik Burns, 27, of Edgewood, as the primary suspect in this case. Additional Information was gathered at the scene of an earlier altercation between the victim and suspect in the parking lot of a nearby Papa John’s.

At this time, detectives believe Burns followed the victim to the Ellsworth Place address and then assaulted him.

Early on Sunday morning, Burns was located, arrested, and charged. He was transported to the Harford County Detention Center where he is being held without bail.
