Perry Hall man sentenced to life in prison for 2019 murder of ex-girlfriend

PERRY HALL, MD—Christopher Engles, 22, of Nottingham/Perry Hall, was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday for the 2019 murder of his former girlfriend.

On the night of February 26, 2019, twenty-year-old Taylor Webb was found shot to death in her car at the corner of Hickory Falls Way and Hickoryhurst Drive in Perry Hall. She had sustained two fatal gunshot wounds to her head.

The Baltimore County Police Department later determined that Webb had been lured to the area by Engles, her ex-boyfriend.

Webb had been texting with a friend just moments before Engles opened her car door and shot her. Engles took her cellphone.

Authorities were able to track Engles’ phone to the scene of the crime and then discovered messages in his phone in which he had discussed planning to kill Webb before the murder.

State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger noted “the senselessness of this brutal crime and the tragedy of another life lost to gun violence.”

“Ms. Webb was a trusting person who was killed for no reason.”

Engles was convicted of first-degree murder, robbery, and firearms charges on September 20, 2021 in Baltimore County Circuit Court.

Judge Paul Hanley noted that Engles showed no remorse for his crimes and sentenced him to life in prison. The case was prosecuted by Robin Coffin and Natalie Scurto.
