Increased fire risk possible in Baltimore area on Saturday, new Wind Advisory issued

NOTTINGHAM, MD—The National Weather Service says there is an increased fire risk throughout the Baltimore area on Saturday, and a new Wind Advisory has also been issued.

Forecasters say gusty winds are expected Saturday afternoon across much of the area. Low relative humidity is forecast during this time as well, with values below 30 percent. While some areas had rain in the last 24 hours, windy conditions and low humidity on Friday will have dried out fuels across the area. All of these factors combined will result in an elevated risk for the spread of fires on Saturday afternoon.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged during this time. Anyone who does burn is urged to use extreme caution and ensure fire suppression is readily available.

A new Wind Advisory has also been issued for the Baltimore area.  The advisory will be in effect from noon until 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected with with gusts of up to 50 mph.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects.  Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
