WEEKLY ZIP CODE REPORT: Over 3.76 million Marylanders vaccinated, COVID-19 hospitalizations drop

NOTTINGHAM, MD—The Maryland Department of Health and Governor Larry Hogan on Friday reported that the state has now administered more than 3.7 million COVID-19 vaccines, including 81,252 over the past 24 hours.

Approximately 81% of Marylanders over the age of 65 have received a vaccine.

Overall Metrics

As of Friday, April 16, 2021, there have been 433,359 cases of novel coronavirus in Maryland. The state has now conducted 9,265,525 tests, including more than 46,000 tests over the past 24 hours.

The statewide positivity rate stands at 5.67%, a slight increase from last Friday’s 5.59%.

A total of 8,342 Marylanders have died with COVID-19 and 1,232 are currently hospitalized – a decrease of 17 hospitalizations since last Friday.  A total of 296 ICU beds are currently in use, an increase of 10 beds since last Friday.

More than 70% of Maryland’s COVID-19 fatalities have been among those over 70 years of age (5,944/8,342).

There have now been 3,260,589 negative COVID-19 test results in Maryland and 10,072 patients have been released from isolation.

Baltimore County has confirmed 60,389 cases and 1,385 deaths with COVID-19 (note: “probable” deaths are not included in these totals).

“Our COVID-19 hospitalizations are down over the last week, and our daily positivity rate is the lowest it’s been in three weeks,” said Governor Larry Hogan on Friday. “Let’s keep doing the things that keep us safe, and help make sure our friends and family get vaccinated.”
