MEMA raises State Activation Level due to unrest in Washington D.C., Governor Hogan to send in Maryland National Guard

NOTTINGHAM, MD—The Maryland Emergency Management Agency has raised the State Activation Level due to the ongoing protests in Washington, D.C.

The State Emergency Operations Center has raised the State Activation Level to PARTIAL as of 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Protestors breached the U.S. Capitol building at just after 1 p.m. while Congress was in session and holding hearings on the results 2020 election.

The National Guard and federal has been dispatched to the Capitol to assist.

“At my direction, the Maryland State Police is sending in troopers to assist the Metropolitan Police Department and the United States Capitol Police,” said Governor Larry Hogan on Wednesday afternoon. “I have instructed the Adjutant General of the Maryland National Guard to call up a rapid response force to support law enforcement and restore order.”

A State Activation Level of PARTIAL means:

​”Incident or event requires significant monitoring or resources. Additional EOC staffing from agencies, functions, and supporting organizations.”
