WEEKLY ZIP CODE REPORT: Maryland COVID-19 hospitalizations rise, positivity rate falls

NOTTINGHAM, MD—The Maryland Department of Health on Friday reported that statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations continued to rise while the overall positivity rate dropped over the past week.

Overall Metrics

As of Friday, November 27, 2020, there have been 192,858 cases of novel coronavirus in Maryland. The state has now conducted 4,335,442 tests.

The statewide positivity rate stands at 6.30%, a decrease from last Friday’s 7.17%.

There have been 4,414 related deaths and 1,435 individuals are currently hospitalized – an increase of 228 hospitalizations since last Friday.  A total of 343 ICU beds are currently in use, an increase of 82 beds since last Friday.

Approximately 70% of Maryland’s COVID-19 fatalities have been among those over 70 years of age (3,127/4,414), as seen in the chart below from the Maryland Department of Health.

Thus far, the mortality rate for coronavirus in Maryland remains under 4.00% for those residents under 70 years of age.  The mortality rate for all age groups dropped or stayed the same over the past week.
