NOTTINGHAM, MD—This weekend could get off to a very wet start, according to forecasters.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of low pressure just offshore of North Carolina for tropical or subtropical development.

Heavy rain and flooding are possible in and around the Mid-Atlantic over the next few days.

The system is expected to produce locally heavy rainfall that could produce flash flooding.

Gusty winds are also possible in Maryland on Friday and into Friday night.
