Olszewski, Glassman address ongoing George Floyd protests across U.S.

NOTTINGHAM, MD—Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski and Harford County Executive Barry Glassman have each issued statements in response to the nationwide civil unrest in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

“The public entrusts law enforcement officers with immense power to perform their duties,” said Olsewski. “When officers abuse that power, they must be held accountable. George Floyd’s death demands that those involved be brought to justice. Across our nation, we have seen far too many examples of black and brown communities suffering at the hands of officers that have dishonored their profession.”

“In Baltimore County and throughout the country, we need to have difficult and honest conversations to meaningfully address the deeply-rooted challenges we face, embracing the values of diversity, equity and inclusion,” Olszewski added.

“Let us stand against racism and violence as we unite in the cause of justice for George Floyd,” said Glassman. “Together we must be build a more peaceful world.”

Governor Larry Hogan also addressed the ongoing protests and riots on Sunday.

“(Saturday) night, Baltimore showed the nation how to assemble to promote positive change,” said Hogan. “I want to thank (Mayor Jack Young), (Police Commissioner Michael) Harrison, the Baltimore Police Department, the Maryland State Police, and the vast majority of demonstrators for their efforts to keep gatherings safe and respectful.”

“We are continuing to monitor this situation closely and are ready to quickly respond to any changes on the ground,” Hogan added. “I also want to continue to stress the importance of reducing risks of spreading COVID-19 while protesters peacefully express their First Amendment rights.”

President Trump announced on Sunday that the U.S. would be designating ANTIFA—the militant, far-left group infiltrating many of the protests around the country—a terrorist organization.
