Suspect charged in connection with Essex, Middle River armed robberies

ESSEX, MD—Police have charged a suspect in connection with two armed commercial robberies that took place in Essex last month.

The suspect is also believed to be responsible for additional robberies in neighboring jurisdictions.

The investigation began on April 29 after two businesses were robbed hours apart under similar circumstances.

Officers responded to the Dollar General located in the 100-block of Beacon Road (21220) at around 7:30 p.m. after the suspect purchased items but stayed in the store and continued shopping. He returned to the register with additional items, but then stepped behind the counter, produced a handgun, and ordered the cashier to open the safe. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

This time the suspect ordered food, then stepped outside. When he returned, he again stepped behind the counter, produced a handgun, and forced an employee to open a cash register and the safe. Again, the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives later identified the suspect as Zachery Erin Kuhn, 23, of the 1300-block of Pontiac Avenue (21225). Kuhn and a female passenger were arrested during an April 30 traffic stop, at which time a loaded handgun was also discovered.

Kuhn faces the following charges:
