A portion of Route 40 in Joppa was shut down on Monday night after a police pursuit resulted in a crash.

The accident occurred at just before 11 p.m. near Pulaski Highway at Joppa Farm Road in Joppa.

Route 40 has been shut down and a medevac chopper is en route to the scene.

Details surrounding the police chase have not been released, but one person was said to be critically injured in the resulting crash.

Motorists should avoid the area.
