A Perry Hall man who reported his wife missing in September 2006 has been charged with her murder.
On September 14, 2006, Baltimore County Police responded to the home of Michael and Roxanne Amick in the 4200 block of Necker Avenue, 21236, for a missing person report. Michael Amick told police that his wife, Roxanne, left their home at 2 p.m. on September 13 to go shopping and never returned. She took his 1998 Plymouth Voyager and left her cell phone at home.
At 2:24 p.m., the Plymouth Voyager was located unoccupied behind a shopping center in the 8800 block of Belair Road.
Just before 8:30 a.m. on September 15, 2006, Roxanne Amick’s body was located in a wooded area near Belair Road and Perry Hall Road. The body was wrapped in two blankets and was in an area that contained a large amount of poison ivy plants. An autopsy concluded the cause of Roxanne Amick’s death was multiple injuries and the manner of her death was homicide.
Michael Amick was brought to police headquarters where he said that he and Roxanne had been involved in an argument and that is why she left. Investigators noticed that Michael Amick had a rash on his arms that went from above his wrists to below where a short sleeve shirt would have ended. A search and seizure warrant was obtained for Michael Amick and he was taken to GBMC hospital to have the rash examined. Doctors determined that the rash was contact dermatitis that was a reaction to plant material like poison ivy. Further medical review indicated that the contact would have occurred within three days of September 15. Amick did not tell how he might have gotten the rash.
Work gloves had been found in the minivan. Recent advances in DNA technology allowed DNA found inside the right hand work glove to be matched with Michael Amick’s DNA profile. The blankets that Roxanne Amick’s body was found wrapped in belonged to the Amicks.
Michael Amick moved to Hawaii after Roxanne’s death. He recently returned to the Baltimore area to visit.
The case was reviewed again by the State’s Attorney’s Office and detectives were instructed to obtain an arrest warrant for Michael Amick. Detectives obtained the arrest warrant and took him into custody on October 13, 2016. Michael Amick is charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
