An armed, suicidal man was successfully disarmed by police in Parkville on Wednesday morning.
At about 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, a patrol supervisor noticed a man with a long gun down his pants walking in the area of Belair Road and Stillmeadow Road. Additional officers were called to assist.
Police say the man then took the gun from his pants, held it, and later pointed it at officers. He also made suicidal statements. Officers followed the man to the area of Walther Boulevard and Kintore Drive trying to get him to drop the gun.
As the man moved to cross Walther Boulevard, an officer maneuvered his patrol car into the path of the suspect and collided with him. The suspect impacted the passenger side of the police vehicle near the front door. The suspect fired a shot around the time he collided with the police car. That shot did not strike anyone.
None of the police officers involved in this incident fired their weapons.
Officers called for a medic unit for the suspect. He was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries that are not believed to be serious.
